I learned a few things when hunting morels in the woods. While the wee lads have the advantage of being low to the ground, the average height adult merely needs to look about 15 feet out ahead of you. This allows you to see the outline of the morel. I can stand above morels growing so that they are at the level of my feet and not be able to see them because of the natural camo effect of the morels’ surface. Once you find one morel, place something you can easily find again beside that morel. This can be anything … like your hat, bag for morels, whatever. Then scan the area … still looking about 15 foot out from you. Remember it is a tree underground … if there is one apple there is most likely more … if there is one morel there is most likely more. If you only find 1 or just a few morels, that spot will likely not produce morels the following year as the nutrient source is most likely almost depleted. We are in the process adding your morel hunting stories and tips. If you have stories and/or morel hunting tips that you would like to send to us please email us at MorelMe@freshmorels.com |
